About Us

About Us

We are building a simple, beautiful, welcoming digital space for Irish.

What is Cogar?

Cogar is an Irish-language social platform, built to give our native language a real digital home — not a small add-on in the corner of a global app, but a living everyday space where Irish is the default.

It is shaped for conversation, community, creativity, and connection: a modern environment where Irish can be heard, seen, and used online as naturally as in a Gaeltacht pub or around the kitchen table.

Welcome to Cogar

Digital social space. In Irish.

A new, dedicated place for Irish-language social media. Where you can write, post, chat, find communities, and use the language as part of daily life.

This is not a small project on the margins of the internet.

It is an effort to create a proper digital space for Irish: one that is alive, welcoming, contemporary, and built with the community at the centre.

Community using Cogar across different places

A community that fits you

Too many online spaces leave little room for smaller languages and distinct communities. Cogar is being built to change that. There should be a place for: fluent speakers learners the diaspora the curious and anyone who wants to use Irish in life today On Cogar, Irish is not at the margins. It is at the heart of the experience.

Find people who share your interests, your level of Irish, and your communities. Follow accounts, join groups, and see what is happening near you and further afield.

Whether you want to: practise a few words meet new friends follow interesting content or play a bigger part in the Irish-speaking community …there is a place for you here.

Cogar and the future

Built for the future

Cogar is not just another app. It is part of a wider vision: a future where Irish is seen and heard naturally in the digital spaces where people spend their time. We want: more visibility for Irish online more chances to use it every day more connections between people and a platform that grows with the community

Cogar mission and vision

Living Irish, not Irish as decoration

Irish is not a “theme” here. It is not trim. And it is not something set aside for one special day or one-off event. Cogar is built on the understanding that Irish is a living, contemporary, social language — for conversation, friendship, news, music, communities, business, and everyday life.

How Cogar is built

A better say in the experience

People should have more control over what they see and how they use the platform. Cogar is being built with a focus on: a cleaner, more human experience healthier communities better tools for safety and moderation and more choice for you Social media does not have to be toxic or exhausting. It can be useful, friendly, and even fun again.

Who's building Cogar?

Ronán Ó Laoire is the founder of Cogar — a developer and technology lead who believes Irish deserves a native digital home, not an afterthought on someone else’s platform.

He has spent years shipping products with global teams; this project puts the language — and the community around it — centre stage.

Cogar is still growing — and that is the best part.

Here is a chance to build something worthwhile together — a new community, a new space, and new habits for Irish online. If you are interested in Irish, you are welcome. If you use it every day, you are welcome. If you are still learning, you are welcome too. This is the start of a new conversation. This is Cogar.
